What is teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening, whitening or bleaching: it all means the same. It refers to the method to whiten teeth, a kind of deep cleaning of the enamel. The base is a chemical bonding of molecules of oxygen with the coloring molecules which deposit on the enamel over time.  A whitening treatment will give your teeth their natural color back.

Is it a safe treatment?
Remewhite Professional Whitening is an absolutely safe and painless treatment. The trained therapist will perform a preliminary dental check and will refer patients with unhealthy teeth to the dentist. The Remewhite gel is very easy to apply and crowns and prostheses are not affected by the treatment.

Is it a time-consuming treatment?
Unlike previous, heavy techniques which made use of halogen lamps, now the whitening can be done very comfortably with amazing results thanks to the plasma technology.
Expect up to 1.5 hours for the whole treatment.

What results can I expect?

A whitening treatment can offer a result that is up to 10 shades whiter than your original teeth color. For severely discolored teeth additional treatment may be necessary. Proper dental care ensures a longer lasting effect.

Is it expensive?
Remewhite treatment is done under the supervision of a qualified practitioner. This is not only the safest but also the fastest way to obtain the best result. A whitening treatment, resulting in white glossy teeth, costs only a fraction of what one spends at the hairdresser in a year!

Why did my teeth get stained?
Tooth composition varies with each person which explains why some have whiter teeth than others. Enamel, however, is almost transparent. Canines by nature are usually a bit more yellow in color than the other teeth because their dentin layer is thicker.

So teeth with a slightly yellow tint are actually a sign of healthy teeth! The yellow coloring can get aggravated by specific eating and drinking habits which will darken the shade of your teeth. Teeth can change color due to various causes:

Just like the complexion of your skin, the color of your hair or of your eyes, the color of your teeth is hereditary.

Teeth are composed of enamel, dentin (or dentine) and pulp. The color of the teeth mainly depends on the color and thickness of the dentin layer.

External staining
External staining is caused by dyes which can come, among other sources, from food. Coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, etc. make our teeth yellower and darker. Depending on the extent to which certain foods are used, the discoloration will be more important.

Age is also a factor:
for instance because of wear, or because the root surfaces are exposed, or because enamel has become more fragile resulting in small cracks. This allows coloring agents to infiltrate the porous dentin more easily. With age the dentin layer also becomes thicker which often causes teeth to appear somewhat darker in color.

Internal discoloration
Intrinsic stains are created by elements present inside the tooth structure.

Two examples are known :
tetracycline staining and fluorosis staining.

Tetracycline
Certain antibiotics (eg tetracycline) which used to be frequently administered to children, cause permanent discoloration of the teeth.

The discoloration will take place during the construction of the teeth and will be built into the dentin. The result is usually a gray, sometimes orange discoloration.

Fluorosis
Occurs when children are forming their teeth and get too much fluoride. This results in chalky, white spots in the enamel of the permanent teeth.

Both surface stains are usually difficult to solve with a bleaching treatment.
In severe cases, T-Brite will always refer you to one of our partner dentists or your own dentist.

A fall or a blow to the tooth, can cause a tooth to become yellow, gray or blue.

The discoloration can be caused by the aging process: your enamel layer becomes thinner and your dentin layer thicker. Finally, gray or black fillings also discolor your teeth.
